Scandinavian fairy tales

We all know the colourful brand Marimekko. This Finish company is very well known for its bright oversized flowery patterns. This time Marimekko suprised me gladly with its cooperation with Aesop. Aesop is a renowned Melbourne-based creator of superlative products for the skin, hair and body. To be very honest, I know this brand only through Tom Dixon’s and Piet Hein Eek’s shops

Collaboration between these two companies was inspired by the rituals of Scandinavian bathing culture. The result is Aesop-Marimekko Sauna Duet, consisting of a refreshing body scrub and body balm containing rich aromatic essential oils of fir needle, sage leaf and pine needle, and purifying ingredients to help detoxify the skin. The Duet merges Marimekko’s Finnish roots and reference to Finnish nature with Aesop’s expertise in both plant-based and laboratory-made ingredients of the highest quality. The proven efficacy celebrates the healthy, balanced life that both brands are active advocates of.

The distinctive products are packaged in recyclable plastic jars and presented in a dedicated cotton bag featuring Marimekko’s ‘Vellamo’ print. The pattern, an interpretation of moving water inspired by the Finnish national epic Kalevala, was designed for Marimekko by Maija Louekari.

Aesop shops and products are very well known for their minimalistic and consistently natural-looking interiors.

The cooperation with Aesop was not the only one the busy Marimekko brand entered into. Also this year Marimekko teamed up with Finnair – the Finnish national airlines – for the business / 1st class tablewear collection.
