Renewing the sense of ritual

Ilse Crawford believes that design can influence the way we behave and feel. By addressing changing times and values as well as the things that don’t change, design can shape the way we live and work. This approach is applied at all scales, from products to buildings and from private to public space. She is developing it with the next generation of designers through her work as Head of Department at the leading Design Academy Eindhoven.

During last Milano Design Week, Ilse presented her latest work for Georg Jensen entitled the “Ilse Collection”.

Crawford broadens the horizons of everyday items. Using materials such as solid copper, steel, brass and black glass to create smooth, beautiful finishes, she creates a powerful link to our emotions and reinforces the connection between the heart, the head and the hands.

The designs have evolved from a detailed study of the history of Georg Jensen and the company’s context of Danish culture. This new collection translates Georg Jensen’s lines into physical forms with touchable feeling.
