New Public Spaces art

I noticed them for the first time from the S-bahn in Berlin – big art Post-its on the offices windows. Sometimes they show a simple message like Happy Birthday Mike! and sometimes very complex faces or cartoon characters. BusinessWeek in its 5th February issue is calling it ‘The post-it Wars’ and is trying to find out who is behind the Post-it brigades. The most famous artwork appears after Steve Jobs died in October, when Christian Mauerer and his friend Andreas Kopp put up a Post-it Job’s portrait of the innovator in a Munich Apple Store.

Another interesting phenomenon in art in public spaces is the playful adaptation of road signs (past-up), or street cup-art and mosaic objects (POC MAG p.16).
