Modern Chandelier

The Gabriel Chandelier is the first permanent contemporary piece installed in the Château de Versailles and hangs over the Gabriel Staircase at the main entrance to the palace.

Measuring 12 metres in height and weighing half a tonne, the chandelier manufactured by crystal brand Swarovski is composed of 800 crystal modules. These pieces are threaded around a stainless steel skeleton containing a led lighting system and was designed by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec.

Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec won a competition launched in 2011 by the Public Administration of the Palace, Museum and State Property Department of Versailles to create a permanent mobile artwork to adorn and illuminate the big Gabriel Staircase at the main entrance of the palace.
