Craftica – design performance

After Miami and Milan, in June this year FENDI brought its design performance programme to Design Miami/Basel for the first time. Since 2009, the FENDI Design Performances have been a real must-see because of the creative view into designers’ workshops. Workshops are often live demonstrations of the processes by which exceptional craft-based design work is made through the use of FENDI discarded materials.

FENDI’s ongoing programme emphasises production approaches that are a blend of the traditional and the experimental. These approaches establish a new, interactive format for design exhibitions that celebrate the creative process and the key role it plays in shaping the value of finished products.

Two Dutch designers, Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Farresin of Formafantasma performed during this year’s event in Basel, which was called Craftica. The names of previous events were Craft-Punk and Craft Alchemy. Crafitica was about exploring leathercraft in dialogue with other handcraft and natural materials.

The objects may look primitive but you can clearly recognise the designers’ craftsmanship and know-how.
