LDF 2013: Re-invent glass

This year’s London Design Festival confirmed the growing tendency towards local craft and natural materials. I was impressed by the presentation of glass.  Lately, glass has disappeared from our daily objects to be replaced by high-quality plastics. Today even big DAP companies advert their products in terms of “this fridge includes glass shelves”. As if glass is an added value to the domestic refrigerator. And indeed it is. Many of the European glass manufacturers are closed due to outsourcing to China. Fortunately, there are still some local, small-scale workshops where designers can learn new processes and re-invent glass.
