IMM 2013: Ghost of the Past 2

Part 2: Design classics

Every year the IMM Cologne organisation commissions an upcoming or famous designer to do a big project. This year the guest of honour for “Das Haus – Interior on Stage 2013” was the Italian designer Luca Nichetto. The commission involved the design of a very big platform of approx. 180 m2, placed in the middle of the Pure Village hall. Nichetto very clearly emphasized his interest in sustainable design. What particularly appealed to me in this project was that the outside was brought to the inside. Nature swept into the house, enabling people to live in a more holistic balance with the environment. To create the relation between nature and architecture, Nichetto filled the entire house with plenty of small accessories and small objects in the shape of animals such as birds made of wood and ceramic or featuring as decoration patterns. Besides birds, the space was crammed with design classics reminding me of the Vitra showroom.

The Dutch bed manufacturer Auping has its own true classic – the Auronde, which has been produced for more than 35 years. The bed keeps up with the times and is regularly updated to suit the latest trends and specifications. Their 2013 collection is very much styled in the  mood of the 1950s and 1960s. Oh, this palette of classic green tones! It is a quite a while ago since we last saw such a vintage product.
