DDW 2012: Peugeot wrapped in NewspaperWood

Just one week ago, during the Auto Salon 2012 in Paris, Peugeot introduced its newest concept car Onyx. Onyx is not special because of its Le Mans 24 hour racing diesel engine, but also because of its fantastic material study using copper, carbon-fibre, aluminium, crystal glass and COMPRESSED PAPER. The compressed paper better known as NewspaperWood is a new material based on a concept by Mieke Meijer, developed and licensed by the Dutch designlabel Vij5 based in Eindhoven. Its young founders, Arjan van Raadshooven and Anieke Branderhorst, design the majority of the products and actively seek collaboration with other young designers to expand their collection.

During Dutch Design Week you can touch and feel this special material a.o. at Yksi Expo/Winkel at Torenallee 22-04 | Strijp S.

Peugeot Design Lab‘s set-up is similar to the idea of Porsche’s famous Design company. The idea is that the separate but attached studio can design anything and take on projects outside the automotive industry. Gilles Vidal, Peugeot’s head of styling, is responsible for building client portfolios.
