DDW 2012: Glocal* Dutch Design

Imperfect design is a project developed by Dutch top designers Arian Brekveld and Van Eijk & Van der Lubbe in collaboration with artisans in developing countries and emerging markets. The combination of handcrafted products in conjunction with leading Dutch designs makes each piece unique.

In March 2012, Brekveld travelled to Vietnam for research into materials like wood, lacquer work, ceramics and textile. He was impressed by the variety of materials, possible techniques and the craftsmanship. Brekveld used the inspiration of the Vietnamese culture and the knowledge of the techniques to design the Imperfect Design collection of lacquer work, ceramics, iPad bags, plaids and cushions.

Van Eijk & Van der Lubbe travelled to Guatemala, where together with a glass works, a ceramics workshop, weavers and craftsmen developed a poetic collection of ceramics, vases of recycled glass and hand-woven and embroidered plaids and cushions. Their worked was accomplished in April 2012.
