Milano Design Week 2012: What to see?

1. Tortona Design Week (previous Zona Tortona) –more info

The Tortona Design Week is the most famous event of the Milano Design Week. There are plenty of small patios, shops, galleries, exhibition spaces etc. showing work of diverse quality.

With a.o.Corian, Moooi, Heineken (with the 1st edition of The Club, a spectacular space at Via Privata Gaspare Bugatti 3 to celebrate their new glowing-in-the-dark bottle).

Within the Tortona Design there is a separate big event in:

 

Temporary Museum for New Design (SuperStudio) – to get free access you have to register here, print the registration and show it at the entrance.

At this location you will find: Canon, Alcantara, Diesel, LG Hausys, Samsung,Porsche, and many High Quality shows!

2.       MOST  at Museo della Scienza e della Tecnologics | via Olona, 6B

This is a new location hosted by British designer Tom Dixon, who invited many interesting companies and other designers to show their work in one space.

You will find a new product of Soda Stream by Yves Bahar, Jawbone, Tokyobike, etc.

To get free access you have to register here, print the registration and show it at the entrance.

3.       Ventura Lambrate – after 2 or 3 successful years, this new location in North-East Milan has become a very popular haunt for YOUNG creatives.

Here you will find in old industrial halls shows like: Royal College of Art, many different Academies of Fine Arts, most of Dutch designers (a.o. Maarten Baas, Kiki van Eijk), the best of the world’s design weeks, Jamie Hayon (star designer) and, for the first time, IKEA (with the PS project).

There are also the Triennale di Milano, Brera Design District, Spazio Rossana Orlandi and Interni Legacy.

With expositions like London 2012 Olympic Torch by Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, Campari, Lego (visionlab), Mini, Vitra, etc.

 

Brera Design District – is a bit chaotic but central part of the city centre. With a.o. Skitch, Alessi Flagship store at Via Manzoni, 14/16, the expo of ECAL – design school at Via dell’Orso 16. For  more info, click here.

Spazio ROSSANA ORLANDI | Via Matteo Bandello 14/16

Rossana is a fashion designer, a petite and refined Milanese lady wearing big, extravagant glasses. She owns a fantastic space with an even more inspiring backyard. Every year she invites many different designers to exhibit their work. Nice place to recharge your batteries.
